A young Richard Joyce set out from Galway Bay in 1675 for the British West Indies. In 1689, Richard’s opportunity came, and his master, loathe to lose his talented goldsmith, offered him a fortune and pleaded with him to remain in Africa. Richard did not waver, and resolved instead to make the dangerous journey back to Ireland. There, he crafted the first of his iconic rings for his long-lost, now regained childhood sweetheart and future wife.
